Dubai International Film Festival 2026

The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is one of the Arab world’s most prominent film events, screening Arab and international cinema across eight days each December. The 2026 edition runs 9–16 December, centred on the Madinat Jumeirah complex with screenings at additional venues across the city.

First held in 2004, DIFF has grown into a significant platform for Arab cinema in particular. The festival includes a competitive section for Arab-language films, a Muhr award programme recognising excellence in regional filmmaking, and an international programme that brings festival circuit titles alongside documentaries and shorts. Industry accreditation has made the festival a working event for Arab film professionals, not purely a public screening showcase.

Programme structure

The main sections include Arabian Nights (Arab-language features and shorts in competition), a Cinema of the World strand for international titles, and a documentary section. Red-carpet premieres take place at the Madinat Jumeirah arena venue. Public screenings are available at multiple locations, with tickets going on sale closer to the festival opening.

The industry component — the Dubai Film Market — runs alongside the public programme, bringing distributors, producers, and buyers together in a dedicated conference format. This is accreditation-only, but the opening events and some evening screenings are open to the public.

Tickets and access

Public screening tickets are typically priced at approximately AED 35–75 depending on the venue and screening type. Gala and opening-night events require separate invitation or premium tickets. Getting there

Madinat Jumeirah is in the Jumeirah beach district, approximately 25–30 minutes from Downtown Dubai by taxi (around AED 40–60). The nearest metro station is Mall of the Emirates, from which taxis take roughly 10 minutes. For screenings at other city venues, the Metro and taxis provide reasonable coverage across central Dubai.

What to expect

December is one of Dubai’s most pleasant months for being outdoors, with daytime temperatures around 24–27°C and cool evenings. The Madinat Jumeirah waterway setting makes it an attractive festival venue. Evening dress is smart casual for public screenings; red-carpet events lean more formal.

DIFF typically coincides with a busy period for Dubai, as the Dubai Shopping Festival begins in January and the city is already in its peak season.
