Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) is one of the world’s largest retail events, running for approximately four weeks from early January into February. The 2027 edition runs 8 January to 5 February. Launched in 1996, DSF was conceived to drive tourism during what had been a quiet post-Hajj period and has since become a fixture on Dubai’s annual calendar, drawing millions of visitors from across the region and beyond.
The festival spans virtually every major mall and retail district in Dubai, with participating stores and brands offering significant discounts, prize draws, and promotional bundles. Alongside the retail component, a full programme of entertainment — nightly fireworks, live concerts, outdoor markets, and family activities — runs throughout the festival weeks.
Shopping deals
Discounts during DSF vary widely by retailer and brand. Electronics, fashion, gold (at the Gold Souk and mall jewellery stores), and perfumes are traditionally among the strongest deals. The Global Village outdoor cultural market, which typically runs from October through April, overlaps with DSF and provides a separate shopping and entertainment destination.
Prize draws are a DSF tradition — retailers issue raffle tickets with purchases, and major draws (cars, cash, holidays) are held throughout the festival period. Participation is typically automatic with qualifying purchases.
Entertainment programme
Nightly fireworks at the Dubai Creek area and at key city locations have historically been part of the DSF programme. Live concerts at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre and other venues take place throughout the four weeks. The concert lineup is announced closer to the start date; check the official Visit Dubai website for confirmed acts.
Practical notes
January and early February are peak tourist season in Dubai. Temperatures are pleasant at around 20–25°C during the day, making outdoor activities and shopping district walks comfortable. Accommodation is in high demand throughout DSF; booking several weeks in advance is strongly recommended and rates are higher than shoulder season. The best time to visit the UAE guide gives fuller context on seasonal pricing and crowd levels.
Getting around
All major malls are accessible by taxi and most central Dubai malls (Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates) are served directly by the Metro. Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station sit on the Red Line; Mall of the Emirates has its own stop on the same line. Taxis and Careem are practical for malls not directly on the Metro route.
Tips for DSF visitors
Weekends (Friday and Saturday in the UAE) are significantly busier than weekdays — if you have flexibility, shopping on Sunday through Tuesday avoids the worst of the crowds. Malls extend their hours during DSF, often opening until midnight or later; check individual mall websites for confirmed hours. Bring a universal power adapter if you plan to buy electronics, and keep receipts as some prize draw entries require them.
